Fistula Program Coordinator – Kiryandongo

UVP is expanding our fistula program into Western Uganda. To support this expansion, we are currently seeking to hire a Fistula Program Coordinator based in close proximity to Kiryandongo.
The Fistula Program Coordinator will work closely with the Assistant and Executive Directors to coordinate all fistula-related program activities and camps in the Kiryandongo region.

Full Details:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Social Work & Social Administration, Community Development, or other related field (or relevant experience, preferred)
  • Nursing background highly desirable
  • 1-2 years of direct field experience with demonstrated increasing responsibility
  • Basic proficiency using technology (e.g. Gmail, WhatsApp, Word, Excel, Kobo Toolbox etc.) to do Word processing, emailing, simple accounting, spreadsheet analysis, etc.
  • Strong organizational skills in order to manage activity timelines
  • Experience and comfort working with a collaborative and constructive peer group
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to detail
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to a UVP’s mission
  • Self-motivated; ability to work in an autonomous environment
  • Ability to work independently
  • Willingness to be away from home for extended periods of time
  • English fluency including strong writing skills
  • Fluency in Runyankore/Rukiga, Runyoro/Rutooro
Program Administration
  • Coordinate the delivery of program services and resources among multiple program activities to increase effectiveness and efficiency of program objectives
  • Execute program activities in accordance with the mission and the goals of the organization and under the direction of the Program Manager or A/M/E Director
  • Provide detailed, weekly program updates to the Program Manager or A/M/E Director
  • Participate in the development and implementation of long-term goals and objectives to achieve the successful program outcomes
  • Ensure program activities operate within policies and procedures of the organization
  • Responsible for the timely collection and continuous maintenance of program documentation on the participants of the program for MEL, fundraising, and external communications purposes according to the confidentiality/privacy policy of the organization
  • Provide feedback when requested for grant applications or reports in a timely manner
  • Meet deadlines of all tasks with little oversight from supervisor(s)
  • Mobilize logistics & resources (e.g. Fistula Ambassadors) for program activities
  • Perform any other tasks as may be assigned by the supervisor(s)
Monitoring & Evaluation
  • With assistance, record program activities on a weekly, quarterly, and annual basis
  • In collaboration with other staff members, utilize program analysis to consider improvements to programs to increase efficacy
Finance
  • Provide updated financial records (e.g. weekly finances/ledger) for the program in a timely manner to the Assistant/Managing/Executive Director
  • Review, edit, and provide detailed, timely feedback on funding proposals for the program to ensure the continuous delivery of services
  • Keep detailed records and receipts of all program related expenditures to be submitted on a monthly basis to the A/M/ED
  • Behave Ethically: Understand ethical behavior and business practices and ensure that own behavior and the behavior of others is consistent with these standards and aligns with the values of the organization. Value and respect donors who provide program funding by using funds and time efficiently and per the terms of the donation.
  • Build Relationships: Establish and maintain positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally, to achieve the goals of the organization.
  • Communicate Effectively: Speak, listen, and write in a clear, thorough, and timely manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques. Reply to electronic communication within 72 hours.
  • Creativity/Innovation/Flexibility: Comfort operating effectively in a changing environment. Able and willing to consult on possible programmatic improvements.
  • Foster Teamwork: Work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness.
  • Problem Solving/Decision Making: With consultation of the Program Manager or Managing Director, assess situations to determine the importance, urgency and risks, and make clear decisions which are timely and in the best interests of the organization.
  • Organize and Plan: Set priorities, develop a work schedule, monitor progress towards goals, and track details, data, information, and activities. Manage challenges in order to complete assigned work in a timely manner appropriate to an international organization.
  • Independence: Capability to work with little supervision, be able to identify tasks that need to be accomplished, and meet deadlines.

Fistula Program Assistant

Full Details:
  • 2 years of fistula experience, supporting patients or volunteering with fistula programs Basic proficiency using technology (e.g. Gmail, WhatsApp, Word, Excel, Kobo Toolbox etc.) to do Word processing, emailing, simple accounting, spreadsheet analysis, etc.
  • Strong organizational skills in order to manage activity timelines
  • Experience and comfort working with a collaborative and constructive peer group
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to detail
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to a UVP’s mission
  • Self-motivated; ability to work in an autonomous environment
  • Work or volunteer experience in a resource limited environment
  • Moderate English fluency
  • Fluency in Lusoga or Luganda
Program Administration

  • Specific tasks include but are not limited to:
    • Ensuring that pre-surgery photos are taken and patients correctly identified
    • Collection of photo consent forms from all patients and ensuring that they are duly scanned and submitted to the ED
    • Assistance with patient identification before camps and follow-ups after camps
    • Assistance with fistula outreach and education in the field
    • Assistance with teaching reintegration participants (soap-making)
    • Provide detailed, weekly program updates to the Assistant Director
    • Ensure program activities operate within policies and procedures of the organization
    • Responsible for the timely collection and continuous maintenance of program documentation on the participants of the program for MEL, fundraising, and external communications purposes according to the confidentiality/privacy policy of the organization
    • Meet deadlines of all tasks with little oversight from supervisor(s)
    • Train community partners in fistula knowledge and practices in a resource limited environment
    • Mobilize logistics & resources (e.g. VHTs, sensitization supplies) for program activities
    • Perform any other tasks as may be assigned by the supervisor(s)
